We are passing through one of the most challenging times since World War II. The global impact of the spread of the deadly Corona Virus since December 2019 is forcing mankind to lead a life in a drastically different way. With nation after nation forced to lockdown, including the most advanced ones, many like the US, Italy, France, Spain are still struggling to cope up with the serious health and death threats that are reported every day. Amongst the steps announced by many, large gatherings are to be avoided and thus many educational institutions have announced offering education through virtual interactive portals using the internet unlike the normal online training (that do not involve face-to-face meetings). Thanks to the availability of technology like AdobeConnect, WebEx, Skype, Zoom, Scribbler pad, etc. to support such initiative.

How do we make virtual training as good as face-to-face, something many learning professionals are troubled by every single day? Many learners see virtual training as inferior to the face-to-face learning experience. Though it is different that does not mean it is inferior! Virtual training can be every bit as effective as face-to-face training. In fact, in some instances, this can be even better. Such sessions can be more interactive, more engaging than face-to-face training.

We can ensure that our virtual training events are every bit as effective as our face-to-face ones. For that, there are a few key steps that we need to focus upon. Not focussing on these steps means that our virtual training is unlikely to be as successful as it should be.

The virtual training programs will be interactive because the platform supports interaction – It does not just happen; we need to design the interaction. We at SDL have put in extra effort to ensure that this virtual interaction is truly a great experience for the students.  Three major steps taken by SDL are:

  • Use of whiteboards to explain concepts using advanced technical tools
  • Increasing the number of hours in virtual training from traditional class-room
  • Allowing students to repeat the course at no additional cost
